Dining Room Appliances
42 Things in Your Dining Room sounds like so much stuff! How could anyone have 42 things in a dining room?
Do you need a dining room checklist for a project? Do you know someone just starting out, starting fresh, starting over? Are you building a new home and need to furnish it? Maybe remodeling an existing dining room? Want to do a whole-house inventory for your household binder? Did you or someone you know just suffer a catastrophic loss such as a fire or flood and now need to work on your household inventory list for insurance purposes? This dining room checklist can be used in multiple ways.
It's hard to believe, I know, but there are at least 42 Things in Your Dining Room (this post contains affiliate links for your convenience. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.). I look around my own dining room and think I can't possibly have that much stuff! I have the usual: table, chairs, hutch, rug, saddle. Yes, we have a saddle in our dining room! Here's a picture:
We really had no other place to put it and it has great sentimental value to us. It belonged to my husband's uncle and is well over 100 years old. Plus, it was rescued by firefighters when they attempted to save our home from the 2007 Southern California wildfire, known as the Witch Fire. It was in our entry area, right by our front door, so a firefighter just lifted it up and carried it outside.
Did I mention how heavy it is? It's extremely heavy. I can't lift it without help. I'm in awe of firefighters (and cowboys!).

If you are a first-time reader to my blog, we lost our home in a wildfire in 2007. While we were blessed to have many things happen along our journey to recovery, one of the things that no one could help us with was our household inventory list for our insurance claim. It took me 9 months of working nights and weekends to create that never-ending list!
So, my various lists of 42 household items are meant to help anyone recovering from a disaster move forward more quickly by helping them with their own home inventory lists. But, if you are the type of person who just likes to prepare for any emergency, these lists are for you, too!
Isn't the above dining space/workspace so cool? With a rustic industrial vibe, the yellow staircase sends it over the top! How many things do you count in this space excluding the staircase? I'm pretty confident that the staircase would be counted as part of the dwelling and not personal property in a homeowner's insurance claim situation. Anyway, I count 22. Now, mind you, I've counted the 6 chairs in 3 sets of 2 because there are 3 different kinds of chairs in this space – metal chairs, plastic chairs, and wooden chairs back by the computer monitor.
I'm pointing this out because if you have landed on this blog post because you were searching for help with your homeowner's insurance claim, I want you to know that you may have to list those chairs separately. Each insurance company is different, so you will need to clarify that with your insurance adjuster. In our case, we were told we had to list everything "down to the last toothpick," or we wouldn't be paid for it.
Okay, here's a shameless plug – the painting in the photo above is one of my father's. He died in 2013 (I miss him every day) and to honor his memory, I gathered up as many of his paintings as I could lay my hands on and am sharing his genius with the world via Great Big Canvas.
My father, for the most part, did not name his paintings. He didn't want to limit the viewer's imagination by labeling his artwork. But I've named this one for him. I call it Emerald City because it reminds me of the yellow brick road and the Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz. I'm lucky in that this gorgeous painting hangs above my fireplace in my living room.
Anyway, you can find this painting and my father's other artwork via this link on Great Big Canvas: Wild Blue Yonder Art. He was an Air Force pilot whose hobby was creating art, thus the reason for choosing the name Wild Blue Yonder Art to honor him.
